HAPPY FOSTER FAMILY MONTH!
October is Foster Family Month!
There are 1,000 children and youth on Vancouver Island who need a temporary home, a safe haven where they can stay while they and their families heal and become strong again.
We thank foster families for providing a caring and compassionate refuge for children and youth in some of their darkest moments.
We thank foster families for providing a caring and compassionate refuge for children and youth in some of their darkest moments.
Imagine being taken from your home to live with people you have never met. Imagine waking up one morning in a strange place, away from your friends, your family, and your pet, and your neighbourhood. Foster families welcome these children into their homes, children who don’t have to imagine, because they know what it’s like to be separated from everything that’s familiar.
We thank them for opening their hearts and homes to children and youth in care.

You don’t have to be an extraordinary person to be a foster parent. A perfectly ordinary person can be the perfect foster parent for one child…and they can both become extraordinary because of it. Foster families can be frustrated, disappointed, and challenged by the work they do. But more importantly, they are inspired, nurtured, and rewarded.
“Fostering makes me a better me…”
“Fostering makes me a better me…”
One thing is certain, every member of the foster family will be transformed by what they do. Fostering may be temporary, but the effect it has on the children and youth in care, and on those who care for them is not. Whether the transformation is instantaneous or unfolds over a period of years, it is nevertheless permanent. Fostering is like a paradigm shift. It changes your perspective in such a way that you can never see the world in quite the same way again.
For this and so much more, we thank you.
For this and so much more, we thank you.
The Board and Staff of FPSS Society is humbled and inspired by the path that foster families have chosen. We thank them for choosing to act, for caring enough to risk their hearts, and for offering a child a quiet, safe place in the midst of a storm. We are better for knowing you.
