National Volunteer Week 2018
Volunteer Week (April 15th to April 21st, 2018)
Volunteers are the roots of strong communities
Volunteering is at the very core of being human. No one has made it through life without someone else’s help.
Heather French Henry
April 15th to April 21st is National Volunteer Week in Canada. Time to take a breath and take a moment to reflect on all of those who give of themselves with no expectations of reward.
We want every volunteer to know that we see you, we hear you, and we value you. FPSS Society would not be what it is or be able to do what it does without a team of volunteers who donate their time and talents to make a difference in communities throughout Vancouver Island.
Some of the ways volunteers make a difference in your community include:
- Planning, preparing, and people-power that make foster family events possible.
- Adding the personal touches that make workshops fit the needs of their unique communities.
- Sharing their knowledge and experiences to make the caregiving journey a little easier for someone else.
- Continuing to offer support and understanding to children and youth long after they have left their home.
- Acting as a steady, informed resource for caregivers undergoing investigations.
- Using what they have learned as a former youth in care to mentor youth currently in care.
- Enduring the heartaches, challenges and frustrations that come with the privilege of being a part of children and youth from hard places.
- Celebrating the success and joys of that come with opening their hearts and homes to children and youth in care.
For all you do, we thank you. If you would like to volunteer some time, please contact FPSS Society at 1-888-922-8437 or admin@fpsss.com. We will help you find a way to make a difference in your community.
Thank you,
Board and Staff of Foster Parent Support Services Society
