BC Child and Youth in Care Week

Stand with children and youth in care, and celebrate BC Child and Youth in Care Week (BCCYICW) this June 1-7! To make sure every young person in care feels celebrated, we are calling upon child and youth serving agencies around the province to come together and host celebrations in each community. Big or small, every celebration is an opportunity to show our amazing young people they are loved, supported and celebrated in their communities. Youth have developed a Celebration Guidelines document, a Promo Kit that event hosts can order or print out flyers, and a YouTube video to help communities plan affordable, fun, child and youth-friendly events. You can also honour local children and youth by nominating them for a BCCYICW Child and Youth Award!

Why Celebrate?
Youth in and from care first advocated for the week so their peers could feel celebrated for their diversity and accomplishments, connect with peers from care and allies to build their community, raise awareness about the challenges they face, and fight the stigma that comes with being a “foster kid.”

Who is the BCCYICW planning committee?
BC Child and Youth in Care Week is a joint partnership between four youth advisors from around the province, MCFD, the Federation of BC Youth in Care Networks, Adoptive Families Association, Federation of Aboriginal Foster Parents, BC Federation of Foster Parents Associations, BC Association of Aboriginal Friendship Centres and the Public Guardian and Trustee. An array of local events and initiatives will be held around the province and we need your support!
